The result of the first phase of the international public tender for the new bridge over the River Douro, in Porto, was made public.
The new bridge will serve the metro network, guaranteeing also the circulation of pedestrians and bicycles.
NRV was with LCW in the consortium “LCW-Engenharia de Estruturas | Arch. José Gigante + Purpose.” Ranked in 4th place, the proposal was left out of the set of three chosen proposals that proceed to the next stage.
The proposal was based on a portal frame with a 375m central span and two lateral spans of 160m, with the 125m central spans in steel and the entire remaining structure in pre-stressed reinforced concrete. A transparent solution that framed the iconic Ponte da Arrábida, leaving the slopes free of piles.
