Back to work, in Madeira.

12 September 2016

In September our Facebook page renews its energy and makes a comeback to follow all the projects. This time we have good news from Madeira Island that is still recovering from the devastating fires. It’s on the final phase the construction of the motorway of Câmara de Lobos – a project that will serve the population of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos and of Jardim da Serra, shortening the distance to Funchal.

It’s about 2,5 km long. The highway has a double tunnel with 400 meters and also several bridges and viaducts with a global cost of around 60 million euros.

The design was developed by a consortium led by NRV|Norvia and a JV between Somague and Mota-Engil was in charge of the construction. The work began in 2008 but went through a period of instability that led to the suspension in January 2012, due to the austerity program in Madeira. Three years later works restarted since the project was financed by European funds. The conclusion of the construction is planned to the first semester of 2017.
