Madeira: 10 years of the rainstorm, 10 years of a reconstruction

It’s 10 years today that a devastating rainstorm happened in Madeira – back in February, the 20^th of 2010, which images of destruction travelled the world.

NRV supported the Regional Government of Madeira from the first days in assessing the damages and defining reconstruction solutions.

Among the various reconstruction projects, it is worth highlighting the intervention in the end sections of Funchal's streams. The project also comprised the improvement of the Avenida do Mar including the creation of a leisure space on the site where the materials from the floods were placed. Today it is a mandatory crossing point and, also, a link between the centre of Funchal and the ocean.
