With more than 40 years of life, this Portuguese circuit has become an icon, where many legends have raced, like Niki Lauda or Ayrton Senna. These works have renewed the conditions of track’s pavements.
NRV / Norvia was responsible for engineering and design services. For the design we analysed the existing situation through functional and structural pavement monitoring, and we also provided technical assistance during construction. The adopted solution involved the general replacement of the existing surface layer by Stone Mastic Asphalt, over a previous levelling bituminous layer .
In addition to the improvement of the pavement, were also carried out some geometric design adjustments and some punctual repairs in the drainage system, security equipment, and kerbs.The contract was carried mainly during August, and is now in its final phase. The works will be completed for the second part of the sports season, which begins in September.
In the 90's we had already designed an improvement of this circuit. We also participated in the design of several modifications in Vila Real Urban Racing Circuit, and performed the supervision of works for the construction of Algarve International Racing Circuit in Portimão. A presence of NRV | Norvia in three of Portugal's most important Racing Circuits.
