CUITO CUANAVALE AIRPORT - RAVINES STABILIZATION

Cuito Cuanavale Airport (ICAO code: FNCV), also known as the Airport March 23, is the airport that serves Cuito Cuanavale, in the province of Cuando Cubango. The airport is comprised of a 2740 meter long and 30 wide track with a capacity to receive a Boeing 737-700.
The project consisted in containing and stabilizing the progression of soil ravages that occurred on the airport runway platform and surrounding area. As a basis for the project, the ravines were identified and the hydrological and hydraulic studies required were done.
The proposed intervention is complemented by the rehabilitation and improvement of the drainage system in the surroundings of the airport runway platform. Drainage systems and other solutions to promote infiltration and minimize surface erosion were previewed. It was also considered the planting of vegetal species – they should minimize erosion and improve the landscape value.
