VILA FRANCA DE XIRA MUNICIPAL MASTER PLAN

Located in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira currently has a population of about 125,000 inhabitants, maintaining in the last decades a high growth rate. Its configuration and location, in a narrow access corridor to Lisbon, where some of the main infrastructures of national interest run, make it difficult to reconcile the growth, the restrictions and the coherence of the territory planning.
The main strategic objectives defined for the revision of the PDM are: hierarchically superior Territorial Management Instruments, namely with PROT-AML; adequate and balanced planning that is articulated with the neighboring municipalities, avoiding territorial discontinuities; the creation of recreational and leisure spaces and creating new areas of business location as an alternative heritage; to verified and planned growth and requalification of some urban settlements and clandestine construction zones.
