The reconstruction work on Pontão de Santa Maria, on Sal Island, Cape Verde, has already begun. This pier, which is a symbol of the island – and considered a meeting point for tourists and locals, artisans and fishermen – is gradually taking on a new shape.
In the past, the pier collapsed following several adverse events and it was the government of Cape Verde, together with the support of the World Bank, that promoted the reconstruction, with NRV and Artelia at the forefront of the project.
The new Santa Maria pier will be bigger and more comfortable but it aims to maintain the same essence.
